#WordOfTheDay: Rigmarole

Rigmarole: needless actions or talk

Origin: early 1700s, from the word ‘ragman rolls’ (a long list of documents in which Scottish nobles acknowledged their allegiance to the king…)

Synonym: nonsense, rubbish, balderdash, hogwash, mumbo jumbo, gobbledygook (I’m not joking and these keep on going)

Example: I added my thumbprint as a password to my iPhone so that I could avoid the rigmarole of typing in my passcode every time I wanted to use my phone. Turns out, half of the time my iPhone doesn’t recognize my own thumbprint and I have to type in my password anyways.
